Canada Only Ram 1500 Sport Review

Not often do we see exclusive variants of vehicles in Canada, but Ram seems to have recognized a trend up there. About 1 in 4 1500's are sold with the Sport appearance package, so Ram Canada decided to design a trim level specifically to suit this preference. The package consists of:

- monochromatic exterior available in nine different colors
- black billet grille with black RAM lettering
- standard bi-LED headlamps with black bezels
- black badging all around
- an optional Sport hood
- standard 20-inch wheels with 22-inch wheels available
- unique Sport badging

After seeing the first RAM Rebel with those tire track pattern seats I was worried a Canadian version would have maple leafs printed all over it. Subtle is the way to go but at the same time its too simple and too subtle. IMO special color options for Canadians would have been better and complement the changes made already.

At least those outside of Canada can spec their new 1500 similarly with the Sport package and chrome delete. I do think they should of maybe considered some other additional features like a block heater.

The 1500 looks great in this spec, and I have always preferred a monochromatic look. And a typical block heater is only about $50, so that's not a whole lot of extra value if it was added from factory.

Although nice when included I don't think its that much of an incentive for someone. Especially when you can find them locally for cheap. More RAM specific improvements are what buyers need.

I think they've done more than enough with this exclusive variant, and I'm betting that it'll sell quite well in Canada. The main thing that may be holding back interest is the availability of their new eTorque system.

There are plenty of first drives/reviews popping up, so I feel like Ram has been able to address those delays. Still not too sure about the 3.6 though, as most of the previews I've seen are for the Hemi.

AutoBlog was one of the publications I remember reviewing both engine options, here's a snippet of their take on the V6:

"Although we prefer the additional power and torque of the Hemi, as well as its rumble, the V6 eTorque is an impressive combination with good power. And the gear changes from its unique 8-speed automatic transmission, which was designed by ZF but built and tuned by FCA specifically for the Pentastar V6, could not be smoother."

The 3.6 is fully through certification now, and the I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed in the results. Even though the hp and torque numbers are decent, the new eTorque system doesn't really offer that big of an increase to fuel economy.

RAM knows how to play the game and right now its just as good as anything else out there. Basically if you're already sold on other parts of the 1500, this is a slight upside
